Literature and Art
The Center hosts special events throughout the year that feature prominent authors, artists and performers from across the country. Recent visitors have included pianist Richard Kogan, authors Tracy Kidder and Alan Gurganus and poet William S. Merwin. A key focus is on interdisciplinary learning, as well as on narrative medicine and using literature and art to imagine the patient's experience.
Center faculty and staff also mentor students involved in the production of Connective Tissue, the Health Science Center's only student-run art and literature journal, and offer an elective for second- and fourth-year medical students called Literature and Medicine.
